The 0530 Protocol
Five steps. No snooze. No exceptions.
The morning is the only meeting that cannot be cancelled.
But a meeting without an agenda is a waste of time. This is the agenda.
Step 01
No phone for the first 30 minutes.
The moment you check your phone, you respond to someone else's priorities. Your first 30 minutes should be entirely offensive, not defensive. The world can wait. Your morning cannot.
Step 02
Hydrate before you caffeinate.
Your body loses 400–600ml of water overnight. You wake up dehydrated — slower cognition, less energy, poorer decisions.
Most people solve this with coffee. Coffee is a diuretic. It makes it worse.
Solve hydration. Then caffeine.
Step 03
Set your ONE thing.
Not your to-do list. Not your goals. Your one non-negotiable output for today. Write it down. Physical paper. One sentence.
"Today is a success if I ___________."
Step 04
Move your body before opening your laptop.
Minimum 10 minutes. Walk, stretch, work out — it doesn't matter. Movement increases BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor).
Translation: you think clearer, focus longer, perform better. This is not an option. This is infrastructure.
Step 05
Protect the first 90 minutes as if your career depends on it.
Because it does. No Slack. No email. No quick calls. Only deep work. Your best thinking happens in the first 90 minutes after steps 1–4.
This is where the real work gets done. This is where others fall behind without knowing it.
The honest truth.
Most people already know this. The difference between knowing it and living it is a decision made the night before.
Set the alarm. Do not negotiate in the morning. The person who wins the morning has already decided the night before.
